Today, in the city of Tarpon Springs, the Florida Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) will begin its 2008 Leadership Conference. This group of dedicated parents and educators are coming together to discuss the wide range of issues that impact Florida's school children and families these days - diversity and inclusion, child abuse prevention, and health and safety among many others.

I am particularly excited about this year's conference because members of my CyberCrime Unit will be presenting information about the work we do to protect Florida's children. A critical complement to the Unit's efforts in arresting and prosecuting internet child predators is cybersafety education. The PTA conference's participants will have the opportunity to view the Attorney General's CyberSafety Education Program, ask questions, and then encourage their middle and high school principals tobring this lifesaving program to their students.

Our office will also be training School Resource Officers at the Florida Association of School Resource Officers' annual conference later this month to present the Attorney General's cybersafety program in their schools. Having SROs as our partners will enhance our efforts to reach every student with the cybersafety message. More information about my CyberSafety Education Program is available online at http://www.safeflorida.net/safesurf.

Every day, 77 million children use the internet and one out of every seven will be solicited for sex online. The most important tool for protecting our children is teaching them and their parents how to be the first line of defense. We need Florida's parents and teachers to help us make this a priority.
