Statement by
GOVERNOR CHARLIE CRIST
Regarding
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

“As Americans, December 7, 1941, is a day that lives in our hearts as one of great sorrow, but is a shining example of the resolve America has to never give up.  That pivotal point in our country's history engaged us in a war that we saw through to the end and emerged as a stronger and more united nation.

“It was through the sacrifices of American men and women, both at home and abroad, that we are able to enjoy the freedom and prosperity that we do today.  The people of our nation were determined to face down evil and tyranny to ensure democracy would continue to thrive.

“Today we remember the men and women who lost their lives that Sunday morning at Pearl Harbor.  Let us never forget the ultimate sacrifice they made on behalf of their country and may they always remain in our memory as part of our country's greatest generation.

“We also recognize the bravery and patriotism of the Pearl Harbor veterans throughout Florida and around the nation.”
