Blade: The Series

Hello everyone,

Evelyn here,

I have something here for those of you who are diehard fans of the Blade Trilogy starring Wesley Snipes as the half human, half vampire hunter best known as the "Day Walker".  Well, for those of you who feel your veins are once more plump enough for another bout with this master vampire hunter, Spike TV has shown its 2-hour premiere of Blade: The Series this past Wednesday nigh from 8PM to 10PM.

I watched a little of the show and liked what I saw.  The settings is in Detroit city and many of the scenes are at night (lots of dark and shadows).  The young actor Kirk "Sticky" Jones stars as Blade in this new television pilot, and from what I have viewed so far, he is very impressive and comes across with the same dark, no nonsense aura that Wesley Snipes developed for movie version of Blade. Kirk has stated that he does 95% of his stunts, and for those of us who have missed the strong arms toting, butts kicking female protagonist, there is Jill Wagner who plays a woman bent on revenging the murder of her twin brother. She too is a welcome surprise.

This is all I have to share on the series at this time. It promises to surpassed Angel and a few other vampire series of the past. However, its violence content is very high and equal to that of its movie versions, so it would probably be a good idea to steer younger viewers away.

Blade : The Series can be seen on Spike TV every Wednesday night at 10PM. For more on this phenomenal new series checkout the following links.

As for me, I recorded the premiere, so I am going back to the show.

Will The Real Willaim Shakespeare Please Stand up?

Hello everyone,

Evelyn here,

Sometime back, I read an article, which stated that the portrait we Shakespearean lovers have known for as long as we could read is not the real Shakespeare. The article also stated that very few actual portraits of Shakespeare have survived, and that what portraits there are around today were painted long after the playwright’s death.

I have to admit that I felt some major astonishment when I learned that I among centuries of faithful Shakespearean’s groupies over a 500 years period have been duped by the portrait that is now gracing the cover of millions and millions books containing the works this playwright. We must not forget the untold numbers of related products his creative works is still spawning. To think that I, I, fawned over the image of the wrong man for a little more than four decades … I have no words. Never mine that I have known that said playwright has been dead age for centuries. For me he was my major inspiration along with such writers as Edgar Allen Poe and Guy de Maupassant. Proxy fathers all.

The article went on to state that the present portrait has even fooled art critics down the centuries, and since the article’s release we have been given a variety of portraits supposedly painted by this and that painter and/or life a long friend of the dead Shakespeare to choose from. I’m crushed and confused.

Don’t let me give you the wrong idea, I am indeed a great fan of Shakespeare, and I have studied his works and his life. It just I am also aware of the rumored doubts of the playwright true identity that has been circulating for centuries, and that some believe him to be a certain lord whom name escapes me. Frankly put, I have come be believe this whole thing could be part of an age old hoax. A hoax that Shakespeare (for understandable reasons) might have had a hand in pulling off.

Why do I believe this portrait thing could have been a Shakespearean’s hoax? When I looked at the newly presented portrait of the cavalier bohemian earring and all, and take into account the article’s description of the time in which Shakespeare lived and wrote, then look at the portrait of that familiar dignified, and scholarly old gent, I have to ask myself. What is the best way to insure that my life’s work survives down the ages? Hmm? Will the masses continue read an apparent rebel from a budding Avant-garde society? My guess is that the scholarly old gent won.

Nevertheless, this is all speculation on my part and the truth, whatever that might be, will never erase my love for Shakespeare, the bohemian or the scholar. All I know for sure is and I believe this was probably true of Shakespeare’s time -- audiences can be murder.

I couldn’t resist the cliché.

Signing of False Witness Law

Hello everyone,

Evelyn here,

Earlier this month I received this news release on the singing of the "False Witness Law".  I meant to post it earlier; however, I became distracted by the my effort to keep that corner from becoming a hot spot for illegal drug sales and keeping those who still want control of the corner from causing me more problems than they have already. It is not an easy task but know that I am not alone in wanting to keep that corner free of trouble.

Nevertheless, I am sticking to the it, and I am not letting them or their third parties intimediate me out of doing the right thing, which to my outlook "doing the right thing" have become rare around in this area.

As promised, below is the news release on the singing of the "False Witness Law", which was prompted by a tragic lost of an innocent child.

Crist Hails Signing of False Witness Law

TALLAHASSEE - Attorney General Charlie Crist today commended Governor Jeb Bush for signing the "False Witness" bill into law.  The new law, which was among Crist's legislative priorities this year, makes it a criminal offense for anyone to knowingly provide false or misleading information to law enforcement officers as they conduct felony or missing person investigations.

"This law, born of tragedy, will save lives," said Crist. "It sends the clear message that lying to a law enforcement officer will not be overlooked or brushed aside. I join the people of Florida in thanking Governor Bush and the Legislature for this strong public safety measure."

The legislation, sponsored by Senator Jeff Atwater and Representatives Michael Grant and Charlie Dean, was prompted by the investigation into the disappearance of Jessica Lunsford, whose body was found not far from her home. As law enforcement officers investigated, acquaintances and a relative of the man eventually charged with the brutal murder were not forthcoming with authorities regarding his whereabouts. Prosecutors concluded they had no avenue to charge the relatives under existing Florida law.

The new law gives prosecutors the means to charge those who stand in the way of investigations and subjects violators to up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Hex A Series Review by me, Evelyn F. Altheimer-Fain

Hello everyone,

Evelyn here,

Like many cable subscribers, I sometimes flip through the channels looking for something new and interesting. On one particular night, I was flipping through the channels, and I tuned the TV to the BBC America network. There I watched a marathon of the comedy series My Family starring Robert Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker – Some on you might remember that Zoe played Lady Anne the young widow of King Henry VI (Peter Benson), and later the ill fated wife of Richard III (Ron Cook) in the BBC production of Shakespeare's “Richard III". This play is part of a collection of 37 plays entitled, “BBC Shakespeare Plays”. The collection was originally released between the years of 1979-1984.

Although Zoe’s part in the play was small, it was memorable because of her delightfully venomous dialog with Ron Cook who played Gloucester and later became Richard III. After all her display of hostilely, it still amazes me that he got her to agree to marry him. I mean, the woman was taking her dead husband, the late King Henry VI, to be buried. What can I say; I am just a Shakespearean nut.

Nevertheless, while watching commercials between segments of My Family the commercial for the series Hex aired. Since I have always been a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and most recently Supernatural, the series Hex fitted right into my must watch programs.

Hex stars, Christina Cole as Cassandra "Cassie" Hughes, who had just discovered from her mother that she is a witch. Jemima Rooper as Thelma Bates, Cassie former best friend, roommate and now a lesbian ghost,  and last but not least Michael Fassbender as the fallen angel, Azazeal, who is stalking Cassie as he has done with all the McBain women since Rachel McBain in 1743. Azazeal the apparent leader of a band of fallen Nephelim’s angels seeks to satisfy his unholy desires with the mortal women of the McBain line. Hmm.

Can anyone say Enoch, as in the forbidden, “Book of Enoch”.

Because Azazeal has always targeted the McBain witches, this is where Cassie trials to stop the past from repeating itself come into play. By determining what Azazeal wants (like, we don’t know) and prevent it from happening again, she can prevent her destiny from ending grievously. However, like many young hero with supernatural powers, Cassie is still learning about herself, her family, and the use her powers, which means she is very easy prey for Azazeal and often blind to the events and motives of the people surrounding her.

The only person who really seems to be on top of the situation is Thelma who was Azazeal’s first victim in this repeat of the McBain's history. In the late 1740’s a young woman was drowned on the grounds of Medenham Hall as Thelma did in this present time. Without being seen, Thelma can go anywhere among people. This allows her to hear, and to learn about what is happening with Cassie or is about the happen to Cassie. I suspect that Azazeal killed Thelma because her lifestyle did not fit in his plans for women. I also suspect that he and Thelma will have reckoning over her protectiveness of Cassie.

For now, this is where I am in the series, and I give it three thumbs up. The others cast members are as following.

Rachel McBain -Jessica Oyelowo

Troy - Joseph Morgan

Leon Tyler - Jamie Davis

Roxanne Davenport - Amber Sainsbury

Gemma - Zoe Tapper

David Tyrel - Colin Salmon

Jo Watkins - Anna Wilson-Jones

From that description of the major cast members, the central theme of the series is not as predictable as it seems and it have all elements of the kind of mystery and suspension programs that I have grown love  from British television over the decades. Hex premiered on June 8, 2006. It airs every Thursday night at 9 PM on BBC America. The link is below.

Researching For Resurrection: The Return of Xena

I am now

in the midst of researching for "Resurrection: The Return of Xena". I am a fuss bucket for details and descriptive storylines. After reviewing what I wrote last year I made a few changes, and I probably will make more changes because I am not very good with present tense narrative. However, I think I am off to a good start. In searching for material to give the story some authenticity found a couple of wonder sites on Japanese folklore and database of several hundreds folklore sites. Research will keep me busy for a time, and I will learn more about the Japanese culture. Once I get a good feel of Japan story telling, I will be able to fly with my own story.

I do research for many of my stories because I want to feel connected with it and the happening with the characters. I am not just the writer of a story but an active spectator. If you do not understand what I mean, asks another writer specially one of fiction and fantasy.

What is the writing experience to me? It is like unbridled passion or my idea of it. It is like swimming deeper and deeper in far end of a pool for the first time, and after touching the bottom, fearfully resurfacing to breathe the air again.

So, be patient with me as I write this story. If post something that is not just right, I will probably change, correct, and/or add to it.

Volusia County Man Pleads Guilty to Running Drug Lab

TALLAHASSEE - Attorney General Charlie Crist today announced that a Volusia County man pled guilty for his role in an Ecstasy trafficking ring. Michael Joel Lassiter, of Daytona Beach, faces up to 30 years in prison for his role in the drug ring, which manufactured and distributed the drug throughout three Florida counties.

Lassiter, 51, was arrested in 2005 after investigators with a tri-county drug task force discovered evidence that Lassiter and four accomplices were running an Ecstasy lab that distributed the drug through Leon, Flagler and Volusia counties. More than 850 pills of the drug worth approximately $17,000 were seized when the defendants were arrested. The lab was the third Ecstasy lab in Florida to be shut down. Lassiter and his cohorts were prosecuted by Crist’s Office of Statewide Prosecution.

"As with any illegal drug, there is an agony to go along with this kind of abuse," said Crist. "We remaincommitted to removing these drugs from the street and keeping them away from our young people."

Lassiter pled guilty to trafficking in more than 10 grams of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (Ecstacy), a first-degree felony. He will be sentenced at a later date by Circuit Court Judge Kim Hammond. Two of Lassiter’s co-defendants have already been sentenced. A third is awaiting sentencing and a fourth, Lassiter's daughter, is a fugitive.

Xena Returns - Fan Fiction

Hello everyone,

Evelyn here,

and it is time for fun, fun fun. At least what I call fun. Last summer I started writing a return story for the Xena Warrior Princess. However, like many other stories I have started, this one got set of side for other things. Tonight I am going to start posting segments from the story as I finish them. This is part on my original fan fiction, and the idea for the story came to me when the buzz on the web was alive with a possible theater movie of series with Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor as their perspective characters of Xena and Gabrielle. So far no movie and as far as I know there is still a battle over who own the rights to the series and character. In writing this segments I asked myself how and what would be the circumstances that would warrants the return of our beloved warrior princess, and what is follows is the answer. At least part of the answer since this story is still in progress.

The story picks up where the last two episodes of Xena Warrior Princess let off with “A Friend In Need I and II. I entitled my creation “Resurrection: The Return of
Xena Warrior Princess”. Enjoy this first
segment of “Resurrection: The Return of Xena Warrior Princess” by Evelyn F. Altheimer-Fain.

 ----------

Many the characters in this story are from the Xena Warrior Princess original series, but I have added a few of my own. In the writing of this story, no injury was intended to USA Studios, Renaissance Pictures, or to the creators of the series. This is a work of fiction and any resemblance to persons alive or dead is coincidental.

Feedback and Introductory Scenario

At the end the series finale, “A Friend in Need, Part II”, Xena and Gabrielle were aboard a ship headed for Egypt. Xena was very much a ghost of herself, and Gabrielle was far from being the perky, naive traveling barb she started out as in season one. The now Gabrielle with her short blond hair, stilettos filled boots, and short crimsoned hot pants was now a mature and strong warrior woman in her own right. Not only did she carry Xena’s chakram that she discovered she could use with deadly accuracy, she carried herbeloved friend’s burnt reminds.

Xena had been beheaded in the Japanese city of Higuchi after losing a battle to Yodoshi’s samurai general who sought to stop Xena and the Ghost Killer from destroying his master and there by preventing Xena atoning for the massacre she supposedly caused some years before while traveling with Borias in the East. It is no guess work to figure out that Xena willingly died a warrior death because she could only battle and destroy Yodoshi, the Lord of the Dark Land, by becoming a ghost herself.

After defeating the evil spirit of the warlord Yodoshi, Xena, regrettably, was ready to trade her chance for a resurrected life for the release and peace of the 20, 000 souls harmed by her and of those imprisoned within the evil warlord. Only now was Xena able to atone with her own death the deaths of the innocence villagers whose souls were not at rest. This was information that Akemi withheld from her, and the Ghost killer revealed it to her after she had died.

Gabrielle only learned the truth when she was stopped by her friend while attempting to bring Xena back to life by sprinkling her ashes into the water of a magic pond that flowed on the peak of mount Fiji. Xena succeed in stopping her friend but only by telling her the truth of why she (Xena) must stay dead. Xena’s revelation to Gabrielle was a great and heart felt shock. No matter how reluctantly Gabrielle took this news, she honored Xena’s wishes and the pair waited arm in arm for the sun to set, and when it had, Gabrielle was alone.

This is all bare bone back story from the series finale. I wrote it here so to better understand where I am going or at least attempting to go in the resurrection of Xena and there by making my quest to bring Xena back to life believable. It will be a joy to write and to see produced. I look forward to many hours of writing, cursing and mind bending decisions and scenarios until I have told the story. Or, as some of my stories seem to do, take me alone for the ride.

Resurrection:

The Return of
Xena Warrior Princess

By Evelyn F. Altheimer-Fain

Japan

The two feudal warlords once partners in series of most often than not bloody and illegal raids, murder, torturous imprisonment and over taxation of the villagers were now bitter enemies and battling each other. The people of the land felt that they were nothing more than prey to those who ruled in the city Higuchi and its surrounding villages. Yet, one of the two feuding warlords seeks change. He is Tomyko, the warlord whose fortress lies south of city. His physicians have told him that he is dying and that the disease that is riddling his body is incurable.

Tomyko has accepted his fore coming death but before his passes, he wishes to rid himself of a secret that has greatly burdened him since its dreadful hatching in a barren room of his palace. It is a secret so dark that it has the ability to destroy his nemesis, Khika, whose palace lay east of the city. For all the secret’s destructive abilities to himself and Khika, it also contains the seeds for returning peace to their feudal torn land.

Tomyko knows Khika to be a brash brut of a man and that Khika fearstheir secret getting out. Yet, unlike Tomyko who seeks to regain the honor he lost  in that dank room so many year ago, Khika fear is based on the return of Xena, the Warrior Princess,  who by sacrificing herself, ended the reign of his mentor, Yodoshi, Lord of the Dark Land. Khika fears the secret surfacing so much that throughout his providence he has forbidden all writings and mention of the warrior princess. If a villager and monk were to do so, it often ended with an immediate forfeit his life.

When the break between the two warlords occurred, Tomyko sent a messenger to find Gabrielle because she alone holds the key to bringing Xena back from the grave.

Egypt

28 B. C.

Gabrielle riding the mare Argona, a granddaughter of Xena’s Palomino mare Argo, is traveling through Egypt and heading for the coastland of North Africa to board a ship that will take her home to Greece and then Potedia. For days, all she has seen is hot white sand and she is now amazed that the tiny dark spate she spotted far ahead a few hours ago was now becoming a familiar face. A familiar face that is riding at a neck breaking pace from what seem to be the desert itself, Gabrielle thought. As she watches the approaching figure, she halts Argona. She is soon confronted by Hoshi, the monk who sought Xena’s help in ridding the city of Higuchi of Yodoshi, the Lord of the Dark Land.

Five years have passed since the death of Xena, and Gabrielle emotions are mixed. On the one hand, she is saddened by Hoshi appearance and the memories he represents, but on the other hand, she is curious and excited to see her old friend. She decides that excitement is the better of the two emotions and pushes the bad memories away. Hoshi was very helpful to her in those last days within the city of Higuchi when she had to prepare Xena’s body for resurrection up on the peak of mount Fiji and her eventual trip to Egypt. The fire of Xena’s body burnt for hours before it was finally drenched by a heavy rain. During those last days before her departure, Gabrielle budding friendship with Hoshi helped to console some her grief.

Gabrielle five years journey through Egypt had turned her into a proven warrior who took her responsible as defender of those “in need of a girl with a chakram” seriously when seriousness was needed. Yet, she also relished the lighter and sometimes funny campaigns. Although her adventures are many as well as fruitful (a girl has to eat and feed her horse) she saw within the mundane, the horrors of human nature and bent of this god or that god on the people of the land which sometimes disturbed her dreams.

Now Gabrielle was ready to return home and face Lila, her sister, and Sara, her niece who she, Xena, Eve, and Virgil rescued from the evil raider Gurkhan. She was also ready to confront the others pieces her past that she left behind. Fortunately, Gabrielle has not traveled alone all those years. She has Virgil as a companion. Virgil traveled with her, Xena and Eve at Amphipolis where Xena refused to become the Queen of Hell after killing the demon who was responsible for her mother’s death and the death of other villagers. The demon had been the ruler of Hell, and the usual way of succession was that by killing the rightful ruler you took his place. Xena did not want to rule hell and any other place for that matter. So while battling her own growing darkness, she tricked the errant archangel Lucifer into revealing his true demonist self and then cased him down into the abyss to rule from throne of Hell.

Being a good fighter, Virgil tries to protect Gabrielle, much to her annoyance. In the three years in which they have traveled together, he has earned a place of warmth in her heart. There were many nights when she was startled from her nightmares. Later she was grateful for the embrace of his arms and his solid shoulders.

The worst of her dreams occurred on the nights when she woke thinking that Xena was reaching out to her and failing to do it. Gabrielle believed this to be true, and that the shrouded person she saw in the darkness of some foreboding land within her dreams was her lost friend. This only served to add to her distress because the dreams were to beginning to have its effects in her awaking world.

When Hoshi finally reach them he was covered in a in a fury of desert dust and sand, Gabrielle said,

“Are my coming and going so regular that even friends that I have not seen in years can easily find me in the Egyptian desert?”

“Hello Gabrielle, I have come a long way to find you and that way was not easy”, said Hoshi breaking into a smile that lit the little monk’s face up.

“Hello my friend.” said Gabrielle, “What bring you so far away from Japan to find me?”

“I bring hope for the return of the one you lost, my friend. After all these years, an answer has revealed itself in a secret which that has been carried inside the breasts of three evil men. One, Yodoshi, who was destroyed by our departed friend, Xena, and his ...”

“Wait, wait Hoshi”, said Gabrielle, “what do you mean by, ‘hope for the return of Xena’?”

“Ah, that is a long story, my friend and not one to be told here in the desert heat”, said Hoshi, but I have found an oasis not far for here were we can all rest and refresh ourselves. There is where I can tell you what you need to know”

“Sounds great”, said Gabrielle turning to her companion, “Hoshi this is myfriend Virgil who had been traveling with me since he found me in Cairo three years ago.

The two men exchanged greeting.

“Virgil and I just recently found the daughter of Egyptian’s merchant. When we found her, we discovered that she was neither lost nor stolen but that she had married a man who her father thought too poor to marry her. Later he was told that the man he had refused to give his daughter to could buy his house and all that he has in it a hundred times over.”

There was a round of good nature laughter and the three turned their mounts in the direction of the little monk’s oasis.

Upon seeing Hoshi’s promised oasis that was picture perfect with its tall, shady palm and fruit trees surrounding a large crystal blue pool of water, Gabrielle declared that she would be the first to bathe the grit and sand from her body. Hoshi assured her that she would find the water a cool and pleasant change from riding for weeks in the gritty desert sand.

Xena’s Returns - My Fan Fiction

Hello everyone,

Evelyn here,

with segment three of “Resurrection: The Return of Xena Warrior Princess”by Evelyn F. Altimer-Fain. Enjoy

----------

Nightfall found the three sitting by a low fire to ward the desert night’s chill. Gabrielle and Virgil wait patiently for Hoshi the begin his tell. Hoshi briefly looked at the two seated across from his and felt a spark of envied which surprised him. Not truly understanding this new emotion, his pushed it aside and began speaking.

“There is really very little to tell, for you, Gabrielle, were presence and you know the details of the rise and death of Yodoshi, the Dark Lord of the Land. Without the help of you and Xena thousands of would be still trapped within that evil one”, said Hoshi.

“Yes, I remember”, said Gabrielle.

“Well, my friend after you sailed from the land, it was discovered that after Yodoshi death his spirit was still very powerful and held control on his allies in the south and the east.”

“Wait a minutes. Are you saying that Yodoshi has returned?”

“Oh no, my friend, he is very much dead and trapped in the underworld”, said the little monk. “Yet, after his true death, his two evil allies, both very powerful and greedy warlords appeared and avenged the Dark Lord’s destruction.”

“What warlords?” said Virgil, echoing Gabrielle’s unspoken question.

“Aye, you did not know of them, said the little monk. “ Before Akemi return to Higuchi to kill her father, Yodoshi, he was a very powerful warlord and ruled all that laid to the North and West of Higuchi and the other surrounding lands. However, as the all poor of the land knew he did not rule alone. His companions were Khika, the evil warlord in the East, and Tomyko, warlord of the South. While Yodoshi lived, these three warlords razed, raped, and pillaged their way across Japan’s providences as far as the land of Chin. No one was spare their cruelty and Tomyko knew Yodoshi ruled in the city Higuchi and that Khika secretly wanted it. That Khika wanted to rule over Higuchi even if it meant a civil war between he and Yodoshi was no surprise to the Dark Lord. But, the only thing that held Khika back was feared Yodoshi’s dark magic.”

“But why would Khika risk making a mortal enemy out if such a powerful warlord as Yodoshi asked Gabrielle as the firelight played off the gold of her hair and reflected the deadly sharpness of the stilettos tuck in readiness in her boots. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

“The answer to that it is the part of the story that Akemi never told anyone but Xena. Yet, many of us have speculated that when Akemi found out about her father’s cruelties that the knowledge turned daughter against father”, said Hoshi.

“You’re talking in riddles”, said Virgil.

“What’s this great secret that you are referring to?” Asked Gabrielle.

“No one in Higuchi knows the whole true but many suspect that if the vengeance Akemi sought against her father was great of enough for her to want to kill him with the of the great warrior princess, Xena, than it is a grave secret. That Yodoshi was a crude master was enough but I suspect more, and the partnership between Yodoshi, Khika, and Tomyko terrified and destroyed many in our land.

However, after killing Yodoshi, Akemi was right to seek purification of her crime by her own death and afterward to bring her ashes to the temple. To fail to so as we all know served to bring Yodoshi back into the world as the Dark Lord of the Land where he who reaped in the soul of the unsuspecting men with the unwilling help of Akemi and the Dark Lord other two evil companions”, said Hoshi

“We know all this", said Gabrielle. “But what does this have to do with Xena now. She is dead”. A sharp pain of remorse coursed through Gabrielle strong, athletic body and a shadow of sadness not there moment ago darken her normal azure tinted eyed.

“Tomyko is dying and now that his end is nearing he had been visited by great regret and the evil resting on his soul,” said Hoshi, “He wants to atone for his wrongs before he dies. He wants to reveal the great secret of what really happened the night that Xena was in the city of Higuchi. The secret contains the answer to why so many of the villagers died while trying to stop her from bringing Akemi ashes to the temple”.

“I still don’t understand”, said Gabrielle. “The villagers stopped Xena because they didn’t want their temple defiled by the sin of Akemi crime.”

“No, Gabrielle”, said the monk. “Villagers were bewitched by the Khika promises of better treatment and future prosperity. All he needed to do was to see to it that Xena never made it to the temple was to place little gold here, and ease a few levies there. Khika wanted Higuchi and its the surrounding provinces, and only Yodoshi presences stopped him.

For years, Khika searched for a way to rid himself of Yodoshi, but as it turned out Akemi had reasons of her own and to Khika delight ended her father’s reign for him. Then knowing that Akemi would attempt to atone for her crime, Khika set his plan and readied his magician to bind the dark lord”, Hoshi said.

”What you are saying is that Khika used the villagers to delay Xena arrival to the temple and when the Yodoshi made him first appearance as the Dark Lord of the Land, his magician was suppose to entrapped Yodoshi in a spelled that would have render him a slave to Khika own evil ambitions”, said Gabrielle.

“Yes”, said the little monk.

“But, something went wrong’, said Virgil.

“Yes, said Hoshi looking at the young warrior, Virgil, at Gabrielle side. Again, he felt a twinge of envy that made him cast his eyes to fire. He did not understand why the Virgil’s present discomfited him.                 “Yes, something went wrong. Khika put too much faith in his magician and disregarded all the legends about the dark one.”

Gabrielle, who was flushed with suppressed angry, asked. “Did Xena die in vain?”

“That I will leave for Tomyko to tell you”, said Hoshi. “We are only a day and a half from his palace, and what he says and gives you will bring better understanding. So, let’s rest now and start out in the morning”, said the little monk.

“Rest!” Gabrielle shouted, as she jumped to her feet. “You think we should rest after what you just told us. She turned on her heels and started towards the horses.

Hoshi and Virgil both rose and ran after her. The little monk said, “Gabrielle, I have told you all that I know, and we would never find the palace in this darkness. This desert is deadly enough in the day, and Tomyko’s spies had set traps for intruders and raiders, which are impossible to see at night.

Gabrielle stared out into the darkness trembling with indecision and rage. Her friend have given her life to save the souls of countless of people who she now believe were responsible for their own deaths. Great tears welled up in her eyes, but she brushed them away. Refusing to cry in front of the men, she turned back to the camp and the warmth of the fire without looking at her two companions.

Virgil and Hoshi exchanged glances after they watched Gabrielle lie down and wrap herself into her bedroll so that she faced away from the flames. The two men were still uneasy with each other, but they wordlessly walked together back to the camp for their own needed rest.

Christian One Liners ...

Hello everyone,

Evelyn here,

yes, again!

A prayer partner sent me a list of christian one liners.  Below are my favorites from that list.

----------

From Christian One Liners ...

The best mathematical equation I have ever seen, 1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given.

We don’t change the message, the message changes us.

The task ahead of us is never as great as the Power behind us.

Quit griping about your church;  if it was perfect,  you couldn’t belong.

If the church wants a better pastor, it only needs to pray for the one it has.

The Will of God never takes you to where the Grace of God will not protect you.

----------

the upon portrait was also sent to me by someone who knows I am into different view of Jesus' face.  this "The Veil of Veronica" by Domenico Fetti is very beautiful and stirring.  See how Jesus face appears to be rising from the rest of the cloth. instead of a simply imprint it is like his face was made one with the cloth.

"What's Hot on Rome, the series?"

Hello everyone,

Evelyn here,

with latest  news on HBO's newest and highly phenomenal series - ROME.  If you have seen to series and/or read my past entries on it, then you know that Rome is HBO newest and highly praised series about the turbulent years of Rome and its dying Republic.  All the regular Roman players (Caesar, Brutus, Mark Antony and Cassius) are present. However, the series has a couple fictional characters named Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo.

Vorenusare and Pullo are two battle worn soldiers who want nothing more than to fade into the background of Rome and resume their normal lives after years of warring for Caesar and of course Rome. However, instead of fading into the normalcy of Roman life, the two men are quickly enmeshed into the city's political dogma and the ultimate rebellion of the Senate against Caesar and his ensuing assignation by them.

Enough said on the storyline. For those of you (like Me) who are hooked on series the news is that HBO has release "Rome" on DVD and below is a link to the HBO's store. Check it out.

TAILGATERS

Hello everyone,

Evelyn here,

It would appear that regardless of the fact that no one has posted any commits on this bog in regards to my entries, I do have a following of readers. My readers seem to be pretty large and diverse group of peoples. This phenomenon is cool in itself. However, it would also appear that some of the people who read my blog are not wrapped as tight as they should. I say this because within the last week or two I have been getting a few tailgaters as I drive to work, come home from work, go shopping or otherwise moving around town.

This being the case I have taken the precaution of notifying someone with the police department of where I am or where I am expected.

The reason for this latest assault might be sparked by my recent entries on racism and the experiences my family and I have dealt with here in Saint Petersburg, and/or the battle I am pushing forward to keep illegal drugs off the street where I live and particularly that corner. Sorry but, this city not filled with angels.

Whatever the motive of the people who are tailgating me, they have chosen a bad way of letting me know that they do not like what I write or what I am fighting against. Moreover, their demonstration (illegal stalking and tailgating) of dislike for me and/or the issues, which I believe important to address, is not stopping my actions or helping to stop the illegal activities here. They are acting foolish and I believe that is most accurate way that I can express what I have witnessed while out on the road and about the town.

In addition, I want to remind the readers that this is a private blog and that I gave its addresses to a few chosen people. Yet, somehow, the address has spread to a wider audience. This in itself does not trouble me. However, those of you think harassing, or tailgating is going stop me from writing on these issue -- you are wrong. I highly, if not strongly, subject that you stop reading. If you continue read, act responsibly and be assured that acts of harassment are reported and that some are posted here where the peacemakers of this city can also view it.

Finally, I am happy about watching police officers role-playing. This has occurred a few times and I do not know what they trying to convey to me. Even as a kid I was never been good at pantomiming, and more importantly, I do not like assuming what a person is doing. There are enough people being heard out there who to appear as to think they know what others are thinking, saying and/or doing. I simply do like such games.

So, if you really do not like what you read. Do not read it! Find a less complicated and less controversial blog.

The Battles Against Illegal Drugs Conitnues On

Hello everyone,

Evelyn here,

Below is the latest news release (June 8, 2006) from Charlie Crist, Florida's Attorney General. The article deals with the sentencing of a Lee County man for trafficking in heroin and cocaine.

In the article is a quote of Mr. Crist that a very similar to a statement I made in an earlier entry. In his quote, the Attorney General makes it clear that there are consequences awaiting those trafficking in the illegal drug trade.

We, the residents of this community, have the right to have our streets free of the illegal drugs trade and all the crime associated with it.

Lee County Man Sentenced  For Trafficking Heroin, Cocaine

TALLAHASSEE - Attorney General Charlie Crist today announced that a Lee County man was sentenced to six years in prison fortrafficking in heroin and cocaine. Domingo Molina pled guilty to trafficking in more than $3,000 worth of drugs. The case was prosecuted by Crist’s Office of Statewide Prosecution

An investigation that began in April 2005 identified Molina as the source of heroin that was being trafficked in Ft. Myers. With the help of a confidential informant, authorities conducted four controlled buys with Molina, purchasing more than half an ounce of heroin worth approximately $650.

"This sentence sends the message that peddling illegal narcotics  has  consequences," said Crist. “The battle to remove this poison from our communities will go on."

After the fourth controlled buy, the source informed investigators that Molina had both heroin and cocaine in his truck and wanted to sell it as soon as possible. The investigators followed Molina to a grocery store in Ft. Myers, where he was arrested. Authorities found approximately 15 grams of cocaine and five grams of heroin inside Molina’s pickup. The investigation was conducted by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit.

Molina pled guilty to three counts of trafficking in heroin, a first-degree felony, and two counts of sale or delivery of heroin and one count of possession of cocaine with the intent to sell or deliver, both second-degree felonies. In addition to his prison sentence, he was ordered to pay $50,000 in fines as well as investigative costs. The sentence was handed down by Lee County Circuit Court Judge Thomas S. Reese.

Reflections on Truth and Breaking down the Myths: Sexism in America and Women Struggle for Equality

Evelyn here,

This entry and following three entries should be read in sequence.

As you know, I have been posting entries on the subject of the most ominous social problem within America’s borders and that is racism in some its forms. Before I continue let me state that I was borne and bred right here in the  U. S, and regardless of all social problems I have witnessed in my half century of living, I truly love this country. However, I am not blind to or proud of some of its less than worthy attitudes of the past that persist today.

When I was a naive teen in the late 60’s I was caught in the middle of few race riots at the high school that I attended in my home town, (not in Saint Petersburg). I learned from those experiences that racism (in any form) was a detestable thing and that the hatred when stirs is never constructive but destroys some part of everyone it touches whether they were innocence bystanders or active participants. No one walks away the same person. Some are broken, many are more enraged, but all are losers.

The people who have been harassing my family and me surprised me by using the race issue to cause us additional problems by twisting my words and the actual situation  I did not think they would go this route, and I knew it the wrong path follow. However, I have since learned that some people when seeking revenge are nothing but evil minded. Still the situation proved that for some reason it was a taboo to describe a black male antagonist of being black (at least it seemed that was a taboo for me to call a black male antagonist black). To do this was considering as racist. However, I consider it accurate.

I could not possibly describe a black male as anything else but a black male. Yet, many blacks in this small community took statement as an affronted. As renege to prove, God only knows what, whenever they saw and/or heard me conversing  with someone of another race, or  reading, writing, viewing anything about another racial background, these revenge seekers would flat out lied to the to people of other racial background about my beliefs about and motives. Keep in mind that some of these harassers are among those I have reported as possessing and selling illegal drugs as well as the occasional unwelcome womanizers.

Revenge is what it has all been for, and the truth has meant nothing. These antagonists went from place to place trying the cause trouble, and no matter how often I report their actions, they manipulated their way out of it. Manipulating people into thinking what was not true of me appeared to become a sick kind game.

Ideas like, I was “uppity” and “reaching to far above my “place”, “needed to learn my place my place” began to become a frequent theme to undermined everything I have ever learned about self-esteem, personal image, assertiveness, upward mobility and race relations. As a former psych. nurse to know that this was happening around me was grating.

It was also horrifying to learn that my son was hurt out there by persons unknown and that he had been told that he was not “college material”, an idea that he would have never obtained in our household. He had also been manipulated into believing that I had lied to him and he was manipulated into doing things that he would never have done had not their influence effected him. I prayed that he would see through all the lies.

Reflections on Truth and Breaking down the Myths: Sexism in America and Women Struggle for Equality

When I searched for him and asked people about his whereabouts, absolutely no one would tell me anything, nor did I not know if he dead or alive. Not even the police department helped me and I believed some of them knew where to find him. Although, my son does not like to talk about what has happened to us, I know he believes me now.

Making me suffer for some un-nameable or imagined crime appeared to be on the harassers mines. Had I committed a crime? No. However, they appeared to want to find something to justify their wrath toward me, and since I have not committed a crime they would try to create trouble for me which brings us update.

I read an article in the AG Newsletter that drug people are dangerous, but I know that standing up against them is the only way the combat what they are doing. The illegal drug sell here is a big issue with them and I believe they are apart of the gang or group youth and adults who are running a ring in this immediate area. Although it appears quiet out there, it is not and I can hear to boom-boom cars as I write. I do not believe they have stop selling or using illegal drugs. I believe that others who are a part of their group are carrying on where they have stopped. In addition, they are still very active in trying the cause me problems on my job and elsewhere within the city. This brings up another problem that I believe needs be brought into the light, privacy among friends.

The privacy of my home family and I is almost non-existence. Our lives have been exploited all during this situation, and even a simply and enjoyable conversation with a friend has become material for misused. However, one evening a friend and I weretalking about the celebrities that we liked. This friend likes certain blonds’ actresses and singers, as do I. My friend knows who I like, and the two of us compared who we liked the most and why.

A very innocent conversation to me; however, our conversation was overheard by an unknown individual or individuals who took what we discussed and turn is into a racial situation. They twisted the truth and circulated a lie around town that has been circulating off and on for these past six years. Their horrendous act has had an ugly effect on some of female I come in contact and many of these women I do not know. This is just how bad these women have been manipulated. What these women were told, I am certain that I do not want to know either.

Nevertheless, one must also keep in mind that this city is a racially charged community and that over the last ten years it has had its share of racial conflict within certain areas of the city. Some youth seem to want me to believe that the city is trying to punish me and that parading multiple blond female in my presence wherever I sought help from the police department and/or other authority figures was hurting me in some way.

As I stated early this display of blonds occurred off and on for six years, and it took half of the first years for me come with an answer as to why people I did not, do not know would present themselves to me whenever I was seeking help. I did come up with two answers and both are terrible, but I believe after six years of this behavior from total strangers that one or both of my answers contain the seeds of truth.

The first answer is that I, a non blond and black to boot, could never get help from the authorities here or elsewhere unless I turned white and blond. The second answer is I could never have a white male lover unless I was and here it again, white and blond. In truth, both answers stink, but what am I to think after seeing this behavior repeatedly and only when trouble was brewing or thought to be brewing.

What do I believe? I believe that as long as I, and the others who are being harassed directly or indirectly (third party) these individuals, should continue stand up for ourselves and not drive these harassers towards civil justice to answer for their crimes. I, for one, intend to keep continue help from the authorities no matter how aggravated the situation.

Reflections on Truth and Breaking down the Myths: Sexism in America and Women Struggle for Equality

Whatever lie was told has circulated (and there were some truly malicious ones), hurt many people. Whatever was said to caused such negative reaction raised the question of just how racially tolerant are the citizen of our city (especially in my neighborhood since this is where it began). Moreover, why would strangers believe lies about a woman, who the harassers did not and do not even know themselves?

Nevertheless, this phenomenon of trying to make a black woman feel and/or believe she is a lesser woman to a white woman is not new. It has occurred throughout the decades and had probably proven more effective during the years where black woman were in slavery and thought of as nothing more than property.

I have never believed such lies or myths, and I was very surprised when this type of racial profiling began and continued. I do not want to come off as if making a obvious joke, but this is the 21st century folks, and with the battles for minorities rights and the feminist movement of the past decades, I would sincerely think that the last thing any woman would want to do is put on an open display to degrade and/or diminished another woman in public regardless of her age or racial different.

However, it happens but I am not alone. Below are two excerpts in from an article written by De Clarke entitled, “Why is beauty on parade?” The first excerpt defines the charactrics was thought to be a woman. The second excerpt subtitled, “3 RACISM” looks at how racism have further encouraged the myth that being white and blond was only the true characteristics of a beauty woman.

I have also provided a link. If you should venture to the site to read the entire article you will discover that it sums up many of ideas that have been a great source of the racial injustices towards women of color. It also offers insight into the author own experiences. I high recommend reading the entire article.

Defining Beauty

A beautiful woman, by the U.S. Standard of Beauty, should be Caucasian (but able to tan); she should preferably be blonde, and her hair should be long enough to provide a secondary fetish (after her body). She should be under 5’8” but definitely over 5’3”, and somewhere between the ages of 16 and 25. She should have no visible hair on her legs or thighs, or under her arms, or on her face (except for eyebrows, but even those may be plucked or waxed away). She should smile a lot. She should not frown, unless in cute exasperation (a la Doris Day); if she cries, she should do it silently and without spoiling her makeup. She should not look noticeably physically strong, though her legs and stomach must be in good muscle tone; she should be slim and long-legged. She should have large eyes, long lashes, abundant and shiny hair (only on her head), red lips, poreless skin, small white teeth, a small Anglo-Saxon nose, small clean ears, and no body odor at all. She should not sweat or exude vaginal secretions of any kind. Her hands should show no evidence of hard manual work.

If she conforms adequately to this list of requirements. she may be called “a doll.” She may regard it as a compliment.

“DREAM GIRL”—Title of a poster. Widely available in the late 60’s, showing a 10-or-12-year-old girl child with large adult breasts airbrushed onto her torso.

The last passage presented a confusing hodge-podge of requirements for beauty, but several main themes stand out.

3. RACISM

America is a land built on white colonial violence, the violence of white men against everyone else. Racism, in a land with this history, will underlie every social institution, saturate the culture. It is no coincidence that the American beauty is blonde--no more than that it is women who are supposed to be beautiful.

When Playboy magazine first ran pictures of Black women, readers wrote in large numbers, demanding that the editors "get those niggers out"--of the centerfold.

Blackness was (and in some sense probably still is: more later) considered of and by itself ugly in the American superculture. It was not long ago that drugstores in Black neighborhoods sold hair-straighteners, skin-lighteners, and so forth--mostly to Black women!--because beauty could only be white.

A number of factors mentioned previously enter into this situation. Certainly the use of Black people as slave labor precluded any association of Blackness with leisure that is a part of beauty. The history of dark/light value judgments dates back at least to the early Indo-European invasions of the ancient world. (The 'Indo-Europeans' are the warlike, patriarchal people we later know as the Greeks, Romans, and Brahman Indians. They were generally taller and lighter-skinned than the indigenous people they met in their invasions, whom they subsequently slaughtered and enslaved. Their earliest writings reflect their belief that tallness, lightness, and maleness weredivinely ordained to be better than smallness, darkness, and femaleness: they tended to destroy anyone who believed differently. We are still living with the damage.) The association of darkness and dirtiness, femaleness, animalism, and 'primitiveness' is that ancient. All those qualities are held as bad by patriarchal culture; they were the qualities of the losers and the enslaved--and, in a triumph of circular reasoning, they were good excuses to enslave and kill.

Darkness and ugliness are well established by the time of Shakespeare, when black-haired women were ridiculed in public and "fair" lady meant exactly that. The blackness of the enslaved African people in America was ugly because they were slaves; because blackness was bad; they were said to be "naturally" slaves because they were ugly and black; only bad witches were old and ugly, and God must have disliked them to make them that way . . .
